Who is this guy call MAS SELAMAT?

I was wondering if Mr. Selamat still selamat (safe in Malay)… So, who is this guy that the Singaporean have been tete-a-tete about?
Mr. MAS SELAMAT IS A TERRORIST!

Some brief information background of Mas Selamat from Wikipedia……

Mas Selamat bin Kastari (born 23 January 1961), an Indonesian-born Singaporean, is Singapore’s most-wanted terror fugitive who escaped from detention on 27 February 2008. The search for him has been described as the largest manhunt ever launched in Singapore. It was his third escape from prison; the previous successful attempts were made in Indonesia. He was allegedly the head of the Singapore branch of militant group Jemaah Islamiah (JI).

Singapore authorities have alleged that he planned to crash seven bomb-filled trucks at various locations around the city-state.In January 2006, Mas Selamat was arrested by Indonesian anti-terror squads in Java and deported to Singapore. He was suspected of plotting to bomb Singapore Changi Airport in 2002, and, according to the Singapore Police Force, he had initially planned to do so by crashing a plane into the airport. However, Mas Selamat has never been formally charged with any terrorism-related offences;instead, he was detained under the country’s Internal Security Act, which allows indefinite detention without trial.

Involvement with JI

Mas Selamat was believed to begin his involvement in the 1990s when he joined Darul Islam, a precursor movement to the Jemaah Islamiah (JI) group. By 1992, he had joined the Singapore JI cell and was sent to Afghanistan for training a year later. In 1998, he studied the Taliban system of government and returned home ‘deeply impressed’.

According to Singapore intelligence authorities, Mas Selamat has met Hambali, the leader of JI, and discussed various terror plots including hijacking a plane from Bangkok and crash it into Singapore Changi Airport. He escaped from Singapore in 2001 before authorities conducted a massive operation to arrest 13 suspected JI members in December 2001.

Arrests

Mas Selamat had earlier been arrested in February 2003 in the island of Bintan, Indonesia, to assist Indonesian police in their investigations of several bombings in Indonesia in 2001 and 2002. Mas Selamat had changed his identity, assuming the name of Edy Heriyanto and obtained an Indonesian passport. Found in his possession were literature on making bombs and the virtue on suicide. He was jailed for 18 months in 2003 for immigration offences. He was, however, not handed over to Singapore upon his release, since Indonesia and Singapore do not yet have an extradition treaty. During this period of imprisonment, he broke his left leg in a botched attempt to escape when he jumped from a high floor, resulting him walking in a permanent limp.

On 20 January 2006, he was arrested again for using a fake identity card in Java, where he was visiting his son who was said to be studying at a religious school there. Singapore requested for Mas Selamat’s extradition and he was handed over to Singapore on February 3, 2006. Mas Selamat is detained in Singapore under the Internal Security Act without trial. The Malaysian intelligence authorities also want to question Mas Selamat who had made frequent visits to Johor before fleeing to Indonesia.

The summary of Mas Selamat’s escape on the 27th February 2008.

This was the conclusion of the Committee of Inquiry (COI) on Mas Selamat’s escape from the Whitley Road Detention Centre on 27 February this year.

The findings of the three—member panel were presented by Deputy Prime Minister and Home Affairs Minister Wong Kan Seng in Parliament on Monday afternoon in a Ministerial Statement.

First, there was a physical security breach as the ventilation window in the toilet — from which Mas Selamat made his escape — did not have grilles.

Second, the guards watching Mas Selamat allowed him to close the door of the urinal cubicle when they should not have done so.

And third, there was a physical weakness in the perimeter fencing outside the Family Visitation Block, where the toilet was located, which made it easier for Mas Selamat to get out of the detention centre’s premises.

On the day of his escape, Mas Selamat was escorted by two Gurkha guards and a Special Duty Operative — who is an Internal Security Department (ISD) officer — from his cell to a locker room to change into civilian clothes for his family’s visit.

At the locker room, the guards lost sight of him when he stood behind a column of lockers to change. He was then escorted to the Family Visitation Block, where he used a toilet, renovated in 2007, to shave and comb his hair before meeting his family members.

He then entered a urinal cubicle, closed the door and turned on a water tap inside the cubicle. One guard stood outside the cubicle door, while the other was outside the main toilet door.

After a while, the guard outside the cubicle felt Mas Selamat was taking too long. But instead of checking, he alerted the second guard outside the toilet, who alerted the female Duty Operative.

The Duty Operative then alerted a male Assistant Case Officer, who ran in, kicked open the door and found Mas Selamat gone. The ventilation window in the cubicle was left open.

Mr Wong said the delay by the guards and their failure to keep Mas Selamat in sight was the second most critical security failure which led to the terrorist’s escape. By this time, 11 minutes had lapsed since he first entered the toilet.

The COI found that during renovations in 2007, grilles had not been fixed to that particular toilet window due to a misunderstanding between the ISD and the contractor.

The superintendent of the centre, who was alerted to this weakness in May 2007, asked the contractor to saw off the window handle as a security measure instead, which Mr Wong said was a bad judgement on the superintendent’s part.

In addition, the CCTV coverage of the area was being upgraded to add motion—detectors, but the cameras were not yet operational.

While there is no conclusive evidence as to how he had escaped from the centre after that, the COI believes Mas Selamat may have climbed onto the roof of an enclosed staircase which converges with the perimeter fencing. He could then have jumped over the fencing out of the centre.

The COI also believes that the JI leader had planned his escape over time.

The toilet that Mas Selamat escaped from.

The interesting part is the speculations abound which attributed the escape to black magic or insider collaboration. Claims of conspiracy theories such as Mas Selamat had died in detention or that he was let out to allow authorities to sniff out other terrorists were also put up by the online community. Reuter also reported that Mas Selamat escaped without trousers! Look it’s scary enough having a dangerous man like Mas Selamat on the loose but without his trousers?

Other conspiracy theory include:

-It is a deal between Malaysian government and Singapore government to provide some tension on the current Malaysia Election. It is said that it will be used as a platform for the BN to note that Malaysia may suffer terrorism if the country fell into opposition hand. I supposed the fear of PAS ruling any states or the country itself.

-It is said that mas selamat was actually handed over to the american authority to be further investigated..so,in order to avoid massive protest from worldwide and from his family side he’s actually being smuggled out of the country under the false pretense of him escaping from his cell..

- First ofall this is one of singapore’s bigest coverups. How in the world do you escape from one of singapore’s most highly guarded detention centre?Well you can’t.Well singaporeans are brainwashed by the goverment and they are doing a great job of it.If you would stay outside of singapore well maybe you will see the whole picture.Mas selamat has actually died in detention, and for the goverment to cover their behinds they had to actually say that he escaped from detention while he was on toilet break (after 4 hours and another week to release his uniform he was wearing).Well this will be the next step the goverment will do No:1,They will recover a badly decompose body in some remote area of singapore and say it is Mas selamat who has comitted suside.No2: they will actually crash a plane into changi airport terminal 1 and say see this is what mas selamat have done and everybody will vote for pap in the next genaral elections. We are all blinded by the goverment so lets open our eyes and see whats going on.

- Mas Selamat is jumping from forests to forests in Indonesia right now. Perhaps even stopping by that little shop by the roadside to enjoy a cup of kopi and a plate of nasi lemak. C’mon lah, he could have gone all the way to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal and took a boat to Batam right after he escaped. Why linger around especially when Singapore is such a small island?Plus nobody knew who Mas Selamat was at 4.05pm since the news of his escape broke out, pun intended, only 4 hours later.

- Mas Selamat used black magic to escape from the detention centre. He made himself invisible and walked out of the place without leaving any traces behind. As of now, if he really has black magic, he may be standing right beside you. You can’t see him right? Yeah he may be there.

- He was reported to be seen in Malaysia. ’cause there are signs all over Malaysia that reads “Selamat Datang Ke Malaysia”.
Direct translation: “Selamat Comes Into Malaysia”
Actual translation: “Welcome to Malaysia”

- Mas Selamat is dead by now. This whole thing about him escaping is just a conspiracy. ’cause apparently he has been tortured so badly in the centre that he died due to excessive bleeding or something (you can’t expect a terrorist to be interrogated the same way as any other detainees right?).So to cover up that he’s dead, the gahmen reported that he has escaped. The truth may be that his body was already being disposed somewhere at the time of the report.Think about which is a better-looking worst headline on our Straits Times:

Terrorist escaped from a heavily-guarded centre in Singapore
VS
Terrorist died in detention centre due to inhumane torture.

Both are bad situations. Both shed a bad light. But given the circumstances, the better of the worst had to be picked. Then why all these trouble of deploying the armies, gurkhas and police officers for search operations, and jamming the routes along Causeway and Second Link? It’s just simply to make the story that Mas Selamat escaped even more believable. That’s the reason why the Police are alerting us to be careful of lost items ’cause Mas Selamat may very well be the invisible thief.

- Mas Selamat did not escape. Neither did he die in custody. Rather, his abilities to convince people that he was totally harmless impressed an old man so much that he was invited to a tea party.”

- The most probable reason I believe is that his escape may be to create a fear among the nation to bring the population back under the government control.”

- “Well, the longer Mas Selamat Kastari (MSK for short) is on the run, the juicier the conspiracy theories that are spun.”
